Finding a Business Mentor

how to find a business mentor

It does seem as if having your own business is a lot less complicated than wanting to get into college, or graduate school, for instance, and not a lot of people who are independent are much more sophisticated in their studies. For those individuals looking to leave the employment of others behind, making sure that they are making sound decisions regarding their business venture is very important. This is why choosing a business mentor is well worth the time and effort. The following article covers how to ensure that the people you choose to help with your future with are the type of mentors you can trust to be there for you.

Character

There is a lot of competition in business today, and it’s not necessarily because there are more people interested in the same business as you or yet they can obtain the same skills you have. You may be able to find individuals you are more compatible with, or who are better-suited with your particular line of business. But in the long run, you will want someone who has the same amount of drive, determination, and vision as well as the same type of business ideals you have. Someone who is honest, had an amount of success in the business, and knows what it takes to make your business a success. You will surely want to make sure your selected mentor has a compatible character.

Motivation

People say that the smarter the mind, the harder it is to professor. That is actually quite true.  A friend who owns a Michigan Road Building company gave me some good advice – You will want to make sure your mentor is constantly motivated. Consider his or her energy and attitude when he or she comes to your as a trainer. If he or she looks depressed or down, you may not want to work with him or her. Keep an open line of communication throughout the training and your mentor will be able to let you know if there is any problems.

During these types of exchanges, you will be able to see if your mentor is keeping his or her mind open out of fatigue. If he or she is able to fade easily, let him or her self. You will need to make sure that nothing gets in the way of what you are doing and your mentor needs to be able to motivate you in order to play their best game.

Networking Skills

You will need to know that you are able to see your mentor as a peer or a partner in your business. You are not going to be able to trust your mentor to put his or her life and no one else’s in a better way. You are your own boss, and your own teacher. You need someone who can present you with the information you need to succeed, and the best way to get that info is so much easier now that there are so many different types of businesses that work on their own, and each business has its own unique unique needs.

You are unlikely to learn everything, but you will notice that you will have the most success with what you are doing. In the long run, you can do this by having the perspectives of two variables, which are the actual business model that the business uses to get out there and survive, and the experience and contacts one gets their their fingers dirty in. So find out if your mentor could be a major part of your success, or if there are certain things you need to do in order to get there.

You will get much more sales and make far less mistakes if you have a good business mentor to help you with. The initial investment in a mentor training program is barely going to pay for itself.
